Buy an Ice Cream and Support DLD!
Award-winning ice cream parlour, Crave joined forces with the Ventnor-based St Catherine’s School and College to raise awareness of Development Language Disorder (DLD) day on Friday 18th October 2024.
Crave ice cream is a popular treat among the students, and many of the staff at St Catherine’s, which supports students with speech, language and communication needs. When owners Chris and Tracy Holbrook were asked whether they would be happy to support DLD Day by creating a special purple and yellow ice cream (the colours of DLD) the answer had to be yes! So on Friday, customers at Crave were able to buy a white chocolate and blueberry ice cream to show their support for DLD.
Sarah Thompson, Principal, at St Catherine’s said, “It’s great to have Crave come on board to help us raise awareness of DLD. Despite an average of two children in every class being affected by DLD, it is still known as a “hidden” condition as it is often mistaken for other things such as poor attention or challenging behaviour, which is why it is so important to have awareness days like this.”
