Speech & Language Therapy School near Bournemouth

Specialising in pupils who have speech, language and communication needs, St Catherine’s is the only day and residential school and therapy provider in the UK for children from 9 to 25 years old. Our school is accessible via the ferry from Lymington, near Bournemouth to the Isle of Wight. Our core values are all about building resilience, courage, respect, and ambition in students. We deliver this through our highly personalised learning programmes.

Over the last 40 years, we have been passionate about supporting the journey that each student embarks on to discover their unique potential. We work with children and young people who struggle with speech, language and communication needs. We help each student understand and discover the very best of who they are and what they are capable of.

There are three core Speech & Language Therapy programmes that your child will progress through their school journey at St Catherine's; main school from 9-16 years old, Sixth Form, 16-19, and our Post-19 Provision for students aged 19 to 25. We ensure each student receives a modified approach to the National Curriculum, to best fit their specific requirements, with small class sizes below 10. You are guaranteed a caring and friendly environment that gives each young person the structure and support necessary to learn effectively.

On-site speech, language and occupational therapy are delivered within the framework of each child’s tailored plan, with an annual review held once per year. Speech & Language Therapy sessions can be held individually, in pairs or small groups, be class-based, or through specialist support including augmentative communication devices and sign-supported language.

We have three residential houses; St Christopher’s for school-age students, located within our main lower school, and for students studying at College, St Anne’s and St Margaret’s. Each house has its own staff led by a Head of House and team leaders who provide help & support to manage everyday routines, homework and stay connected with home, whilst developing life and social skills & experiences.

My child has made remarkable progress in his learning since being at St Catherine’s. This has been life-changing for them, and also for us as a family.”
