Speech & Language Therapy
When each young adult starts Post 19 provision at St Catherine’s, our team of occupational therapists begins by identifying the strengths and needs of their functional and independence-based skills. These needs will be fully explored through our detailed assessment process, offering parents, carers and the young person a profound insight into their unique requirements.
Every individual at St Catherine’s benefits from a range of occupational therapies, led by trained specialists. These focus on refining practical skills and strategies for managing daily life, with a pronounced focus on community participation. Sessions frequently unfold in real-world settings, including travel and community activities, promoting independence.
Sessions can be:
- one-to-one, in pairs or small groups
- group sessions focusing on independence, travel skills, and community access at least once a week
- equipment, support and resources within residential houses and with families
- collaboration with their education provider to ensure access to course content
- functional-based sessions within the local town setting, emphasising community engagement and independence
Every individual receives an annual review report from their occupational therapist. When individuals move on, they undergo a full reassessment, providing valuable insights to inform their future decisions and ensuring a well-prepared transition to independent living.
